Hi Bob, yes indeed, drugs are encouraged in shamanism. We had a woman visit us today that just got back from the amazon. She spent months learning with five shamans. She talks highly about the mind altering drugs they use.

  • They are a valid path for some.
She even went as far as saying that you can't have a 'real' journey/healing without the drugs. When she left the room to go to the restroom, our teacher/leader shaman told us that Mike Harner (core shamanism) who had encountered this drug thing as well found that the proper beating on the drums is all that is needed.
  • There are many other paths besides auditory driving, although drumming Is my favorite.
“Drumming rhythms can influence the human body because of a phenomenon of nature called entrainment. Entrainment is defined as a synchronization of two or more rhythmic cycles and was first discovered by Dutch scientist Christian Huygens in 1665. While working on the design of the pendulum clock, Huygens found that when he placed two of them on a wall near each other and started them at different times, they would eventually end up ticking in unison. Entrainment has been found to be a universal force in nature and will act on any two or more vibrating bodies as long as they have similar rhythmic cycles <http://www.reiinstitute.com/rei-article.html>.”
  • In other ways auditory there are many stock, off the rack, brainwave entrainment musics available ones like Hemi-Sync or Steven Halpern - I've Loved Spectrum Suite especially for years, and here is a kule new release or most anything else he's done from Inner Peace Music and here is a link to a new style that doesn't rely so heavily on headphones. I Love the Hemi-Sync. Especially the ones for delta wave sleep, for the times I really need to get Deep rest. Also, ones based on the heartbeat are sweet, harkening back to early memories in the womb clear up to the moment. Thanks and Praises.
  • Holosync®; and REI have off the shelf stuff and custom, tailor-made, affirmations in your own voice, one-o-a-kind kind a deals, there. Holosync® will let you listen on-line free with hype and send you a free sample CD if you answer a questionnaire a givem your eddress and your address.
  • If you are into technical stuff like recording there's a software program that will encode the brainwave entrainment binaural beats into what ever foreground music you wish to use. Shareware it costs about a hundred dollars US to register it and it is downloadable for un-crippled trial from. The binaural beats are barely noticeable if at all, so your favorite music comes through just fine with the added payload of brainwave entrainment to a particular state.
  • I channel Reiki through acoustic instruments played with the hands. Percussion and tuned percussion for the most part. I also recognize that accurate speakers and modern recording methods are getting closer to the ideal of acoustic instruments and have therapeutic value as well.
  • "Nada Brahma" Sanskrit for "The World IS Sound" pretty much bottom lines this facet of my practice. Color and light is a kule vibe of a more frequent sort, as is Reiki and Prayer. These modalities are all connected in my way of thinking, part and parcel, All is sound and music hung on a field of silence and utter stillness, the center of the wheel where motion ceases, Source.
I will stick with that. I don't want to use mind altering drugs. I hold the amazon shamans in high esteem but one can do shamanism without the drugs. That is what I concluded.I have taken jouneys that were amazing and no drugs were used.

  • These materials are not risk free. They can combine with foods and medications to produce dangerous side effects and this is true of things far more common. In and of themselves the dosages are often calibrated in less than a milligram and so present low impact to the body. Interestingly, it seems that rather than producing a state of seeing things that are not there, Entheogens are powerful allies that permit a lifting of the veil to see more clearly into the inner working of things. It's been described as a bit like climbing a tall tree to orient oneself in terms of the "Big Picture." Mindset and setting are ostensibly crucial to all such endeavors of Spirit. Because back in the day when LSD was legal and experiments were run with Divinity students, ALL of the ones in the study had visionary religious experiences. It seems desirable to employ some means that works to get us out of the state where we are entranced with our illusions (what is termed "ordinary reality") into a visionary state that is if anything More Real. How you get to the "commanding view" at the top of the tree or the "summit" of the proverbial mountain with many paths to the top, seems trivial.

“One of my psychedelic excursions had gotten off to a bad start, and I was sinking into a really satanic bummer. As I looked about me at people turning evil, shrunken, colorless, old, and weird, I suddenly thought, "Well, what did you think it was that needed to be loved?" And just like that the doors opened and I was in paradise. ’No resistance’. This does not mean that you must be physically passive or meekly put up with bad vibrations or rip-offs. This means no resistance in your mind. Be free in your head, act out of love, and do what feels good. There is no action that is always right or wrong the only true variable is the love with which you act. As you open your awareness, life will improve of itself, you won't even have to try. - Stephen Gaskin

“We wouldn't be here if it weren't for psychedelic drugs. In terms of the role of psilocybin in human evolution on the grasslands of Africa, people not on drugs were behind the curve. The fact is that, in terms of human evolution, people not on psychedelics are not fully human. They've fallen to a lower state, where they're easily programmed, boundary defined, obsessed by sexual possessiveness which is transferred into fetishism and object obsession. We don't want too many citizens asking where the power and the money really goes. Informed by psychedelics, people might stop saluting. "Take your political party, your job, whatever, and shove it.”
- Terence McKenna (November 16, 1946 – April 3, 2000) "Tripping"

“I think the real test of psychedelics is what you do with them when you're not on them, what kind of culture you build, what kind of art, what kind of technologies... What's lacking in the Western mind is the sense of connectivity and relatedness to the rest of life, the atmosphere, the ecosystem, the past, our children's future. If we were feeling those things we would not be practicing culture as we are.”

“Acid is not for every brain .... Only the healthy, happy, wholesome, handsome, hopeful, humorous, high-velocity should seek these experiences. This elitism is totally self-determined. Unless you are self-confident, self-directed, self-selected, please abstain.”
- Timothy Leary (October 22, 1920 – May 31, 1996)

“His hair has the long jesuschrist look. He is wearing the costume clothes. But most of all, he now has a very tolerant and therefore withering attitude toward all those who are still struggling in the old activist political ways... while he, with the help of psychedelic chemicals, is exploring the infinite regions of human consciousness.”
- Tom Wolfe, "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" (1968)

“If the door of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to a man as it is, infinite.”

“Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”

Tequila Cake Recipe
(Be sure to read the entire recipe before starting!)

1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 bottle tequila
2 cups of dried fruit

Sample the tequila to check quality. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.

At this point it's best to make sure the tequila is still OK. Try another cup... just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the dang fruit up off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the tequila to check for tonsistikity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something.

Check the tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over.

Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.

And then start drinking plenty of water.

Problem? No Problem for the pharmaceutical companies.
