One way to look at this is that rather than protection, we let ALL energies flow through.

The idea that we need to protect against something immediately makes us vulnerable, it's fear-based. And the flow-through can happen without any residue.
  • Kule. “Nothing to fear but fear itself.” illusory stuff, False Evidence Appearing Real (FEAR).
“Do not fight to maintain what you believe is the necessity of a physical capacity. The moment you truly release it, it returns to you whole. Release fear and love is there. Where love is present, all things are possible. I do not speak just metaphysically - I speak practically as well. Look to where fear lies and choose love. That is your work. That is how your body is serving you now.”
“Emmanuel’s Book II: The Choice for Love Rodegast, Pat and Stanton, Judith [Compiled by] Friend’s Press, 1989, p. 119.

<snipperino> There is however this...it's called Kenyoku-ho and roughly means 'dry brushing or sweeping'. Like all of his newly discovered techniques, it's practical, simple and elegant. It's a few motions that clears energy from the shoulders, chest, heart, lungs, liver, spleen, the energy pathways of the arms and hands, and your auric field. 30 seconds and you're done.
  • I do sweeps also, for others when prone I place one hand on the base of their neck and stroke downward with the other to the sacrum area and repeat several times. Clear Quartz and minerals like Kyanite and Selenite are great for combing out those pesky auric snarls (grr grr rwaor) also. Kyanite blades can be taped to the underside of a Reiki table saving work as the recipient very often will just melt after lying there a moment.
As you may or may not know, he emphasized personal spiritual evolution, rather than the healing art aspect of Reiki, though he was known as a great healer.
  • Wonderful to know that great minds think alike. A prime tenet in many disciplines is the recognition of the spirit side of things giving rise to the material.
“All we are dealing with wherever we live in the Universe is just different levels of energy, some of which is unmanifest at one extreme, called spirit, and some of which we find at the other extreme in a manifest form which we call matter. Because it is ALL energy and all energy obeys a few basic laws. They are called the laws of physics in science, and called spiritual law in esoterics - everything in the Universe obeys "exactly the same laws." The way we see and experience them simply depends on our perspective. What you see, depends on where you stand.”
- Ra Bonewitz in "The Cosmic Crystal Spiral"

“There is something in such laws that takes the breath away. They are not discoveries or inventions of the human mind, but exist independently of us. In a moment of clarity, on can at most discover that they are there and take them into account. Long before there were people on the earth, crystals were already growing in the earth's crust. On one day or another, a human being first came across such a sparkling morsel of regularity lying on the ground or hit one with his stone tool and it broke off and fell at his feet, and he picked it up and regarded it in his open hand, and he was amazed.”
- M. C. Escher in "Approaches to Infinity"

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”
- Bible KJV Book of 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13, Verse 8

<snipperama>What I teach my students is that if you think or feel it's YOU 'doing' Reiki, then trouble is looming. The practitioner is a conduit, nothing more, nothing less.
  • Thank You. The proverbial hollow reed.
Further, if you're attached to the results of the healing, then you're going to experience residual negative effects. <snippitydoodah> Don't misunderstand, it's still deeply compassionate and caring, but true compassion is a very elevated vibration. This state is very strengthening to the practitioner, where we can remain objective while feeling empathetic.

“It is not a personal affront to you when someone is being discordant, it is a measure of his pain. He's showing you how much he hurts, and how much compassion he needs. But keep in mind, too, that not all victims are innocent. In a certain karmic sense, no victims are innocent, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help them, for it is our fate to exist in a relation to them, and how we behave determines our own karma. But we should give help in a way that does not extend our attachment to low vibrations. That means we should give what we would expect to get, good or bad, in the same circumstance, and begin with the knowledge that all beings are equals.”
- Thaddeus Golas in "The Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment"

And the practitioner is NEVER responsible for the results of the healing. You can't force healing, your ego or concern can't MAKE it happen<snipcricklepip>

“As some of you will evolve in your lives to be healers, let me remind you that there are some souls that do not wish to be healed. *You must be healed,* is so often the message that is given with the healing. No, they must not be healed, only if they want to [be healthy]. And you are not the authority on that. Do not inflict your will. Just give Love. The soul will take that love and put it where it can best be used.
“Emmanuel’s Book: A Manual for Living Comfortably in the Cosmos” Rodegast, Pat and Stanton, Judith [Compiled by] Friend’s Press, 1985, p. 166.

“Really--I don't know what the meaning or purpose of life is. But it looks exactly as if something were meant by it.”
- C.G. Jung

“It is only when we realize
that life is taking us nowhere
that it begins to have meaning.”
- P.D. Ouspensky

“The meaning of life is to find out what the meaning of life is.”
- Walter D. Pullen
