Looking at this in DCM terms may help.In general, We consider the "three-fold circle."1. The physical Circle (room, chairs, drums, space, light, ambience, etc.)2. The circle of Music (drum and instrument sounds, rhythms, volume, texture, etc.)3. The circle of Spirit (the people, their attitude, approach, feelings, energy, etc.)It may help to address each of these separately and in this order, moving from the concrete (logistical) aspects to the conceptual (spiritual).Keep in mind that as a facilitator, you are managing many aspects of an event at the same time. You are supporting, teaching, coaching, allowing, giving, encouraging, guiding, protecting, participating and hopefully enjoying the event with everyone else. There will always be work to do, and in community circles, there will always be much of the same work to do from event to event (ie. Holding a steady pulse on a base drum and/or bell so others may travel across the music without the bottom falling out from under them.)I have a simple 1-page "welcome to the circle" sheet that I produced and that is included with the DCM Training Packets. If I get some time, I'll post it to the DCM website under the Resources page so you all can have it too.Best,-Kalani, DCMFYou've got the physical circleOn Dec 15, 2006, at 2:50 PM, Reverend R Clark wrote:Sometimes when many are simply whanging away without the least
inhibition and failing to listen to what others are playing it sounds
much like popcorn popping, very random. At other times especially when
there is a strong core group and folks are listening more, an
entrainment thing happens and the crowd really grooves.
When this happens it is most thrilling and satisfying. With this as the
goal I appeal to ya'll for suggestions, that could be printed up as
guidelines of "fair play" in Drumcircles.
In addition we seek other aspects of genteel "Drum Etiquette" or basic
courtesies enabling the greatest good for the greatest number and
outlining appropriate behavior on the Drumcircle scene.
