- I had a bout with vertigo a few years ago. That "free falling" stuff is surely an "undivided attention getter" and can be quite frightening. Your Mileage May Vary so I do not presume to diagnose or circumvent any professional healthcare and what I found to be quite helpful was a dose of serious Grounding. I meditated-contemplated-concentrated on Scarlet, Red, RED and visualized growing roots deep into Momma Earth calming and straightening out the swirling energies behind my eyes and feeding them to the planet. With this visualization and Reiki I always Felt better immediately and less likely to lose my vittles, even if the vertigo spell took a while to abate.
There are abundant allies in the mineral kingdom: Smokey Quartz (esp. Elestial), Obsidian, Hematite, Selenite, Kyanite, Turquoise, Bloodstone in more or less descending order. The plant kingdom provides allies in the earthy scents: Vetiver, Sandalwood, Ylang ylang (Cananga odorata), Angelica (Angelica archangelica), Ginger, Patchouli, plus the resinous scents of Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica), Frankincense, White fir (Abies concolor), Spruce (Picea mariana), Pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Juniper (Juniperus osteosperma and J. scopulorum) and herbal simples like Valerian & Hops taken internally, can also help.
When I needed to walk about under these circumstances, I remember one of the finer points of Tai Chi, where we were encouraged to bend our knees so that our fundament (root Chakra) was over our heels and visualize being suspended by a cord from the Heavens that ran down through the crown Chakra and continued down through the straightened spine out the fundament from which was suspended a weight. A bit hard on my knees due to the time both patellas were shattered and the low center of gravity really helps in moving about steadily with greater confidence and Hey, looking on the bright side.......at the very least should you sit down hard you will be closer to the ground and likely to drop on your, err... your fundament, err... the biggest muscle in your body and they don't call it "maximus" without reason <grin>.
Falling harmlessly is an art and often it is the artless that perform it. The proverbial observation that God protects fools and children, is bourne out in cases where babies sit down hard, yet loose, when learning to walk, and drunk adults often are so relaxed they escape broken bones and other injury in car wrecks and falls. Where the nuts and bolts of this "native ability" carried to an Art would be a prime teaching of martial arts to "fall well," and seems to address how to handle the issue in situations of rapid deceleration upon contact with the ground following a fall. It appears to have something to do with absorbing the shock of falling with the fleshier parts and larger muscles in a glancing way, swirling, avoiding joints and hardness against hardness. Basically responding to the yang force in a yin manner of unquestioning acceptance and fluid movement channeling the forces away from doing harm. However, it is good remind ourselves, as they say in aviation, "Any landing you can walk away from is a Good landing." and since the higher we go the more kinetic energy we store in our bodies, it is excellent to note that you cannot fall off the ground so it is a safer refuge to recover from vertigo spells.
So Until Further Notice (as Momma would say)
YOU'RE GROUNDED!*
*Please consider the above statement an affirmation on my part. While I do make some feeble attempts at humor in this message (and to be fair, most of my talking and writing) it is not my intention to trivialize your trials with electro-magnetic v. magneto-electric FX, in any way. However, I do know that if we can lighten up in a balanced way finding our plight funny, endearing even, that we are truly on our way Home.
I pray this Helps!
Thanks For Everything!
One Love, R
The present is holy ground.
- Alfred North Whitehead quoted in Teaching Your Children About God by David WolpeThe deeper the grounding, the higher the soaring.
- Meenakshi SuriShow me a man with both feet on the ground, and I'll show you a man who can't put his pants on.
- Arthur K. WatsonAnything that really frightens you may contain a clue to enlightenment. It may indicate to you how deeply you are attached to structure, whether mental, physical, or social. Attachment and resistance are appearances with the same root: when you resist by pulling away your awareness, the emotion is one of fear, and the contraction is experienced as a pull like magnetism or gravity; that is, attachment. That is why we often fear to open our minds to more exalted spiritual beings. We think fear is a signal to withdraw, when in fact it is a sign we are already withdrawing too much. - Thaddeus Golas in "The Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment
- Arthur K. WatsonToday's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
All that is gold does not glitter.
Not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
- J.R.R. Tolkein. The word fundamentalism comes from the root, fun·da·ment, which means a$$ or buttocks.
Fundamentalism, therefore, is essentially nothing more than a$$-think.
- Cory HarrisonIn Buddhism there is no place for using effort. Just be ordinary and nothing special. Eat your food, move your bowels, pass water, and when you're tired go and lie down. The ignorant will laugh at me, but the wise will understand.
- Lin-chiLaughter is a holy thing.
It is as sacred as music and silence and solemnity, maybe more sacred.
Laughter is like a prayer, like a bridge over which creatures tiptoe to meet each other.
Laughter is like mercy; it heals.
When you can laugh at yourself, you are free.
- Ted LoderYou gotta learn to laugh, it's the way to True Love.

Enlightenment is sometimes compared to the "tiger's cave" - there are footprints leading in, but none coming out!
- YashomitraIf the student finds in his meditation that the four great elements are out of harmony, and body and mind are fatigued, he should rouse himself and make this meditation. Let him visualize placed on the crown of his head that celestial "So" ointment, about as much as a duck's egg, pure in color and fragrance. Let him feel its exquisite essence and flavor melting and filtering down through his head, its flow permeating downwards, slowly laving the shoulders and elbows, the sides of the breast and within the chest, the lungs, liver, stomach and internal organs, the back and spine and hip bones. All the old ailments and adhesions and pains in the five organs and six auxiliaries follow the mind downwards. There is a sound as of the trickling of water. Percolating through the whole body, the flow goes gently down the legs, stopping at the soles of the feet.
Then let him make this meditation: that the elixir having permeated and filtered down through him, its abundance fills up the lower half of his body. It becomes warm, and he is saturated in it. Just as a skillful physician collects herbs of rare fragrance and puts them in a pan to boil, so the student feels that from the navel down he is simmering in the So elixir. When this meditation is being done there will be psychological experiences, of a sudden indescribable fragrance at the nose-tip, of a gentle and exquisite sensation in the body. Mind and body become harmonized and far surpass their condition at the peak of youth. Adhesions and obstructions are cleared away, the organs are tranquilized and insensibly the skin begins to glow. If the practice is carried on without relapse, what illness will not be healed, what power will not be acquired, what perfection will not be attained, what Way will not be fulfilled? The arrival of the result depends only on how the student performs the practices."
