Flow By Reverend R Clark

Greetings Folks!

I found these "top ten lists" that are applicable to drumming, dancing and hence is germane to the stuff of Life.

"The Top 10 Signs That You Are NOT In Flow" and an antidote "The Top 10 Ways To Get Back In Flow".

I recall an out of print tape set (ISBN: 0873200128) that I heard years ago. I outline below:

The gist of which it seems is there is this rather common type "A" mode that is kinetic, in constant motion, stressed out, controlling and although folks in this mode get a lot done the price in terms of health consequences is high.

Then there is the type "B" mode that is totally laid back, sedentary, dreamily floating through life getting very little accomplished. Typically folks in this mode are "out of control," rudderless letting the ebb and flow of life push them where it will. Rather like Donald Duck... flat footed, don't give a $#!+ and things just roll off their back. <grin>

The ideal seems to be the type "C" mode which in the tape set is called the "C zone" or as I am calling it "flow" which takes the best of both modes and leaves the rest.

What I am dealing with now is being Relaxed and Open to Drumming and other things that can be difficult in my life, being Ef~Fort~Less!

One of the ways that works for me (and the dear friend that provided this insight) to gain this Peaceful perspective and ease in my endeavors is to allow my "spirit body" to take on the task at hand while I let my "mental body" surf on the surface of this awe full (wae past some) force.

Interestingly, as I "get out of the way" I feel an even stronger connection to what it is that I'm "doing," firmly rooted in the moment, grounded. Also, in the case of drumming I find physically I am able to go faster, for longer, and hit harder with out fatigue or muscle "burn." Mentally I am clearer and am able to "look ahead" further as my "scope" expands and this is conducive to inspired improvisation and soloing.

I hope this Helps!
May Peace Be With You and Yours!
Drumming Peace, R

A Taoist story tells of an old man who accidentally fell into the river rapids leading to a high and dangerous waterfall. Onlookers feared for his life. Miraculously, he came out alive and unharmed downstream at the bottom of the falls. People asked him how he managed to survive. “I accommodated myself to the water, not the water to me. Without thinking, I allowed myself to be shaped by it. Plunging into the swirl, I came out with the swirl. This is how I survived.”

“The best way not to drown is to ride the wave.”
- Deepak Chopra, "The Path to Love"

“To act wisely when the time for action comes, to wait patiently when it is time for repose, put man in accord with the tides. Ignorance of this law results in periods of unreasoning enthuisiasm on the one hand, and depression on the other.”
- Helena Petrova Blavatsky

“Shi-Kin Hara-Mitsu Dai-Ko-Myo: A moment of true interaction between mind and spirit may lead to Enlightenment.”
- Bujinkan Ninjutsu motto

Signs of being 'touched' spiritually
1) Big dopey grin.
2) Urge to touch other people. Spiritually, that is.
3) Urge to tell everyone over and over how happy (you feel) and how wonderful things are.
4) Constant use of trite Pollyanna sayings.
5) Simplistic Pollyanna attitude.
- William Henry Timmins

“Forget all you know or think you know;
Abandon power and enforced decree.
Inward, where the deepest rivers flow,
Find the currents of eternity...”
- Wayland Drew, "The Book of Fin Raziel"

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened
about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light
shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we
are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
by Marianne Williamson (A Return to Love: Reflections On The Principles
of A Course In Miracles, p. 165, HarperCollins, 1992)
Quoted by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 Inaugural Address

“The Sufis believe that every aspect of daily life has potential as a
devotional practice. Every bodily movement has its source in the divine.
Everything we do, everything seen or heard, tasted or touched, can be
undertaken as a devotional practice. This level of devotion brings us into
a new relationship with the ongoing creation as we realize that the entire
universe is dependent upon the creative energy that vitalizes each and
every moment.”
- David A. Cooper, "Silence, Simplicity & Solitude"

“Play exists for its own sake. Play is for the moment; it is not hurried,
even when the pace is fast and timing seems important. When we play, we
also celebrate holy uselessness. Like the calf frolicking in the meadow, we
need no pretense or excuses. Work is productive; play, in its
disinterestedness and self-forgetting, can be fruitful.”
- Margaret Guenther in Toward Holy Ground

Symptoms of Inner Peace Used with kind permission by author Saskia Davis ©FEB1984, All Rights Reserved

Be on the lookout for symptoms of inner peace. The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to inner peace and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world.

Some signs and symptoms of inner peace:

  • A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experiences.
  • An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.
  • A loss of interest in judging other people.
  • A loss of interest in judging self.
  • A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.
  • A loss of interest in conflict.
  • A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious symptom.)
  • Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.
  • Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.
  • Frequent attacks of smiling.
  • An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.
  • An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

Warning: If you have some or all of the above symptoms, please be advised that your condition of inner peace may be so far advanced as to not be curable. If you are exposed to anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms, remain exposed only at your own risk.

“How do you get world Peace? You get world Peace through Inner Peace. If you've got a world full of people who have Inner Peace, then you have a peaceful world.”
    - Dr. Wayne Dyer

“In life and in love, there is only that moment, the NOW. The only reality
we know is what we experience this very second. Reality is not what has
passed or what has yet to come into being. Grabbing hold of this simple
idea makes life magical because it brings love alive.”
    - Leo Buscaglia

    “Just like a catsup bottle,
None will come and then a lottle.”
    - Richard Armour
